Introduction to Acting
This course will takes place over a period of six weeks (once a week 3hr classes). Students will gain experience of a range of acting techniques and styles through a number of structured projects spread over six weeks. Typically you will work on each project in intensive rehearsal periods of 2-3 hours culminating in a practical project or performance. Students will gain an understanding of the different roles and responsibilities involved in creating performance. The course is designed to stretch student’s emotional, physical and vocal range and to encourage spontaneity through improvisation.

Audition techniques
• Aimed at those intending to audition for drama school
• Designed to assist applicants during the audition process by developing and expanding skills and building confidence.
• Students work on classical and modern speeches and prescribed texts.
• Practical class is given in vocal techniques and physical exercises.
• Students receive guidance on how to select suitable speeches and on presentation skills at audition.

Acting on Camera
• Aimed at those with no on camera experience
• Basic skills and techniques in acting for the camera
• Live and recorded performance
• Work one-to -one and in small groups with a professional director.
• Learn how to read and interpret a screen-play for television or film and to develop a believable character on screen.
• Understand and practice continuity techniques.
• Devise material for screen and see how it looks from the other side of the camera.
• Develop confidence on screen through learning the ability to watch themselves and others on monitor.


Emotions
The work of this section encourages you to develop and show a range of basic emotions truthfully and without inhibition.

students will learn how to communicate stories and characters imaginatively and freely using voice, body and emotion.

Creating Atmospheres
Students will work in groups creating atmospheres that capture the mood and spirit of a written text (eg a poem, play or story).

Ensemble Work
Through their group work students will begin the work of learning to participate effectively as part of an ensemble.
Incorporation of skills
Rehearsal processes, recreating rehearsed work.

Audition Technique.
Aim to prepare students to enter the next level of full-time acting or similar training. Student will learn how to find audition pieces and explore criteria for assessing their suitability. You will begin the work of acquiring a repertoire of audition pieces specifically aimed at drama school audition environments.
General presentation skills, including interview technique, for drama school audition. Students will, under the guidance of their tutors with regard to individual student's preparedness in terms of audition pieces, select suitable courses and apply for further training.

CHARACTER
An initial training in acting theory, method and practice based on the ability to change, adapt, extend, perceive, accept and reject. Students look outside themselves, approaching firstly improvised situations and then scripted text in imaginative and collaborative ways. By the end of the course students will know how to start work on a play and will have begun collaborative text work. They will be able to begin to create a character from a text and to start the process of creating the world of the play.
PERFORMANCE SKILLS
• Traditional approach to actor training, routed in the theories and methodologies
• Relaxation, concentration and acting truthfully under imaginary circumstances.
• Improvisation, the creation of a dramatic character, focus and concentration; communication, script analysis, intentions and given circumstances.
• You will be developing tools and skills that you will be able to apply in rehearsals and projects.

Final project
The script and structure of the final performance will be devised by .........?. The focus of the performance will be on the creation of believable, truthful characters and a focused storyline. The performance can take a number of forms - but will be created so that the student actors will have to go through the process of recreating moments of from the extended improvisation.

Coursework:
Students work with tutors in small group practical classes.
Learning also takes place in practical presentations/demonstrations, workshops and supervised rehearsals.
Continuous oral tutor feedback is integral to class work.
Students receive written formative assessment and tutor feedback report at the end of course.
Additional learning is encouraged through improvisation, group discussion and tutor-guided independent study.
